The dougong, a distinctive feature of Chinese architecture, consists of layered arches supporting columns and beams. The square blocks, or dou, give it its name. Today’s dougong is mainly ornamental, with Su Zhou Mansion’s version evoking animal legs, aligning with modern industrial design. Detailed carvings beneath the dougong amplify its visual appeal from below.
