Step into the World, Retreat into Serenity
Chengdu, Sichuan Province

Part One:Preface

Nestled in the core area of Tiandong Sector, Tianfu New Area, Chengdu, this project serves as a pivotal practice for the development of the region. With a rigorous academic research mindset, it reconstructs the imagery of a "natural canyon", exploring an innovative paradigm for the sustainable coexistence of ecology and technology in high-density urban areas. Adhering to the philosophy of "Step into the World, Retreat into Serenity; Hidden Grace, Inner Radiance", it creates a super interface that boasts both urban iconic value and ecological resilience.

Part Two:Design Thinking

At the community entrance, the ecological cliff based on the original landform texture is juxtaposed with an 11-meter-high frameless ultra-clear glass curtain wall, forming a dialogue between nature and technology. As an extension of nature, the ecological cliff provides habitats and biological corridors for urban ecology; the glass curtain wall introduces natural light, reducing energy consumption from artificial lighting and reflecting the principle of energy conservation. Together, the two create a super landscape interface, redefining the relationship between nature and the community, and realizing the harmonious coexistence of urban development and ecological protection.

A 3,000㎡ underground space reimagines the secluded beauty of an urban underground forest canyon, linking with the towers to form a holistic architectural spatial ecosystem. Leveraging the topographic elevation difference, the sunken clubhouse nestles its functional volume into the ecological cliff, minimizing terrain disruption and preserving ecological integrity. Themed courtyards including "Twilight Forest" and "Under-Rock Space", integrated with native vegetation and rain gardens, cultivate a microclimate system boasting rich biodiversity, offering robust support for the community’s sustainable ecological development.

Leveraging the site’s landscape resources, a "tree-shaped" planar unit is proposed. Unlike conventional square towers, it achieves a longer viewing frontage within a limited area, ensuring excellent views for both high and low zones. Breaking the constraints of traditional thinking, the principle of "layout following landscape" is adopted to maximize the mutual visibility between residences and urban landscapes, realizing the harmonious coexistence of humans and nature. The residential unit types feature groundbreaking innovations, offering an ultimate 270° panoramic view.

The architectural form and urban landscape permeate each other, enhancing the amicable dialogue between high-rise buildings and the city. The distinctive facade curves boost the architectural aesthetic value, optimize ventilation performance, reduce the impact of wind load on the building, and achieve energy conservation and consumption reduction.

For the human-scale facade, off-white French wood-grain stone is carefully selected, and the orderly texture and iconic appearance are achieved through repeated refinement. The combination of metal materials and stone makes the metallic texture and the warmth of stone complement each other, enriching the exquisite visual experience of the entire space.

Part Three:Conclusion

ÉTERNEL strikes a balance among "contraction and expansion, void and solid, motion and stillness". With academic ecological strategies and spatial poetics, it shapes the community center into a self-regulating "ecological generator". As a future-oriented, low-carbon, eco-sustainable and healthy community, it sets a practical example for urban sustainable development.
