The POETIC COURTYARD concept envisions buildings as mountains and courtyards as lakes, crafting poetic spaces within an urban landscape.
Shunyi District, Beijing

Situated in Beijing’s Mapo area of Shunyi New Town, this locale is earmarked for upscale industrial development and showcases the vision for a sustainable, highly livable new district.  The project’s design ethos is rooted in the principles of “city” and “environment,” reflecting the area’s commitment to harmonious urban living.

With such a promising development area, it naturally sparks imagination. The design unfolds in response to this, ultimately allowing POETIC COURTYARD to find its own distinctive features and create a hidden and luxurious lifestyle within the thriving Shunyi New Town.

The design embraces a contemporary Chinese aesthetic, echoing the tranquil hues of traditional ink wash paintings.  Employing light stone and coffee-hued metal, it captures the calm of Eastern art. The facade’s symmetry imparts a stately simplicity, while horizontal lines and architectural details like balconies and eaves enhance its grace.  Vertical elements convey strength, embodying a modern take on Oriental elegance.

The design draws inspiration from rolling mountains, emerging from the ground, layered, and staggered to create a sense of majesty.

Suspended over water, the architecture conjures a surreal atmosphere.  Its introspective layout merges seamlessly with the aquatic setting, fostering a space for interaction, relaxation, and reflection.  This simplicity purifies the everyday, inviting contemplation of the adage “wise individuals find joy in water,” as light and shadow play across the surfaces.

The building’s design integrates white stone walls with dark gray metal roofing, embodying the timeless elegance of classic garden homes. Modern materials lend these elements a refined delicacy. Ultra-clear glass augments the structure’s transparency, inviting natural light inside and reflecting the courtyard’s beauty outward to create an immersive experience, reminiscent of wandering through a landscape painting.
