New Science and Education City Bridges Universities to Bring Talent and Applied Innovation to the Changsha Xiangtan Zhuzhou Region
Xiangtan, Hunan Province

This 31.6 square kilometer new development area serves as a bridge between Xiangtan University and the Hunan University of Science and Technology within the Yuhu District of Xiangtan and its Economic Development Zone.  The focus of planning efforts was the coordinated revitalization of existing communities and development of future industries, new vocational campuses, housing, office, retail, public facilities and amenities.


With the goals of becoming a gathering place for innovative talents, a source of technological innovation, a hub for technology commercialization, and an engine for industrial development in the region, this the proposal promotes the integration of vocational and university education, education and industry collaboration, and the flow of applied research and development into industry.

Applying planning principles of a compact spatial layout, tight integration of urban functions to develop a highly inviting and livable environment, the development plan adopted an overall structure of one Central Smart Island, two Intelligence Cores, two University Districts, and multiple interconnected axes.

Respecting the various existing but disconnected developed areas, the plan taps into the potential offered through revitalization and the opening of new development parcels by connecting the universities, shaping new core business districts surrounded by educational facilities, housing and community amenities.
